Changing Peoples Lives Through Positive Action

2018 - 12 hour Sponsored Training Session
When practising martial arts it is often easy for individuals to become fully immersed in their own practice, sometimes to the exclusion of everything else.

For many students at the Halesworth & Lowestoft Kuk Sool Won Schools this has not been the case, in fact the driving force behind many club activities has always been to offer something back to the community. Demonstrations and exhibitions have always been a great way in supporting local village and school fetes. Students always exhibit much pride and enthusiasm in showing off their newly gained skills to mums and dads, friends & relatives and the general public, with performances that are always well received.

As well as taking part in these demonstrations many members have also offered their time, energy and effort in fundraising for specific charities. These have included national organisations such as Comic Relief, Children In Need and Meningitis Now. Apart from supporting the larger organisations, much endeavour has gone into supporting many local charities in the region including; Ollies Heros, Help an East Coast Child, and many more.

Over the past thirty-two years, it has been estimated that the Halesworth & Lowestoft members have raised over £30,000 for worthy and charitable causes. This has come about through a variety of different ways, but the most favourable method in raising money has always been the 12 hour non-stop sponsored jail-training session. This is an event where the participating students are locked into the training hall (dojang) and are unable to leave until 12 hours of practice has been completed.

To date, four jail-training events like this have already taken place, with the last one held in 2018. On Sunday 24th February 2019, due to popular request, another 12 hour fundraising session has been organised by the Halesworth Kuk Sool Club Committee. This year the committee is pleased to announce, it will be fundraising in aid of East Anglia's Children's Hospice - EACH.

It was Mahatma Gandhi that said “The simplest acts of kindness are by far more powerful than a thousand heads bowing in prayer.”

The philosophy of the Halesworth & Lowestoft Kuk Sool Won is very similar - Changing peoples lives through positive action.
